About the Caustic Brewer

I work as a water professional by day and moonlight as a homebrewer. My own mother lovingly refers to me as a “waterhugger.” Given that it’s the main ingredient in brewing it should come as no surprise that I got into beer.

I was lucky enough to be introduced to homebrewing around the age of 10 and brewed my first solo batch at 22. It slowly at first, and then quickly thereafter, became a love affair. 12 plus years and seven moves later I’m more into brewing than ever. The seriousness, education, and practice is starting to pay off.

In 2018 I did the competition thing for the first time and managed to get three beers through to the National Homebrew Competition Finals and a handful of 1st place ribbons in total. I appreciate the criticism from pro judges and receiving their honest feedback. It makes me a better brewer and allows me to share better beer!

Originally from San Diego, and with a grad school stop in North Carolina (Lets Go Duke!), I now live in Santa Barbara with my sexy, smart, and accomplished wife and our fresh-out-the-oven little boy. In addition to beer, I enjoy hiking, cooking, all things history and politics, the Pacific Ocean, and throwing heavy barbells around. It just so happens that most of those other things pair well with beer!

Santé!
